“The Odyssey” (2026) continues Matt Damon’s ongoing career quest to get home. It took me a little while to get into this movie, but with a 3-hour run time, there’s time. It took a bit to get used to all the time jumps back and forth. I was getting close to asking if somebody got lost from the BBC.
This film can be loud. It’s not “One Battle After Another” loud, but it is Christopher Nolan loud. The Cyclops seemed to be out of the “Attack on Titan”live action films.
Although it’s been north of 30 years since I read the source material, and longer than that since I’ve heard a radio broadcast performance of this, I was able to remember enough to know what was coming.
Some of the criticisms you may have heard are true, others not so much.
The giants seem to be more like bigger people in armor, then What you might typically imagine when you hear the word “giant”, for example. That’s fine, if you don’t mind wondering what the casting call was like.
The armor needed somewhere and tear. There was no duct tape and Bondo holding the hyperdrive together.
I know you guys are surrounded by water most of the time, but did you really just take a shower right now? You’ve been rowing for how long?
Right. It’s a 3-hour movie. Have a scuff mark with your helmet-hair.
Apart from the sound design, there is one battle after another in this Odyssey, both at sea and at home.
I was entertained.
