“Supergirl” (2026) is a movie you put on whilst at the bar, after the game is over, but still not late enough for you to go home. “Not great, not terrible”, in case you find yourself nostalgic for the HBO Chernobyl miniseries.
The only connection to that level of disaster in this movie is some brief flashbacks to the destruction of Krypton, and maybe some radiation poisoning from Kryptonite.
I was confusing one actress with Bella Ramsey a few brief times in this movie, and at one point I wanted to tell her to go back to Bear Island. No hate on the actress, for a few brief moments it seemed like that had this actress been that actress, then there would have been some type casting going on. But this was not that actress, and there was no need to send Lady Mormont home.
Lobo was decent. I remember when he was introduced in the comics back in the day, and I didn’t really take to him back then, and I don’t think much has changed. I would not be seeing a lobo standalone movie, for example. Although I did not make it past issue #1, and that’s after his brief introduction in the Superman line, I am counting this movie as in the same vein. At least they kept him smoking a cigar that would put Cuba to shame.
The villain in this movie seems to be an off-brand Xerxes, of “300” fame (a real guy, I know, but I’m referencing the movie because of how Xerxes is visually portrayed in the film).
I came out with two questions;
1) Does Krypto not have the same type of Kryptonian skin as Superman or Supergirl? Or does off-brand Xerxes have really good needles for his needle gun?
2o Kryptonian tears not freeze in space?
There is no mid-credit scene.
There is no end credit scene.
I don’t think there’s a need for a Supergirl sequel.
I can imagine a future where there is a “Team Superman” universe, with Superman, Supergirl, Steel, and maybe even The Eradicator. But we would need a good Steel movie, and the Superboy storyline would need a lex luthor worthy of the comic books, a couple steps north of how they got it in the recent Superman film, which I’ve sit around here was the closest they’ve gotten so far with a few gripes from me.
Anyways.
That’s a wrap on this Supergirl film.
