“The Invite” (2026) is directed and stars Olivia Wilde. Edward Norton, Penelope Cruz, and Seth rogen also star. Billed as a comedy, I’ll be damned if this was not written as a play in a previous life. It has all of the trappings and gimmicks of being a play, right down to the essay format. Direction and framing in the beginning reinforce this. The Truth hits at about the 100-minute mark. The film ends on an optimistic note.
